HISTORY: 67412F2A03217 was
sold new by Frank Cate Ford in Elk Grove, CA.
1-30-68 to Tom Gallagher of Fallon, NV.
I am the third owner. This is unusual,
most Shelby's change hands frequently. The car
number is 03217 the 67 Shelby's stopped at
03225. This is a very late model Shelby. The car
was purchased January 30, 1968 by the original
owner from Frank Cate Ford in Elk Grove, CA. The
car is in Fallon NV till 1985. It was purchased
by Barry Goodman from Las Vegas, When Barry
purchased the car it was painted Brittany Blue
with a single stripe down the middle (have
pictures). He had the car painted back to the
original Night mist Blue (paint job is about 8
years old but I have had re-touched three times,
most recently I had the hood, door jams and
front fascia re-sprayed. There is only one small
rust hole located in the left rear inner fender
in the back which is approximately 1” X ˝”. I
believe it has been this way for over 20 years.
Drive train: In May-June
2001, the C6 automatic transmission completely
rebuilt. I had the drive shaft balanced and new
spicer u-joints installed, the rear differential
is the original 9" “unit but I recently (July
2003) had a Detroit Locker installed and it
still has the original 3.25 gear ratio.
Wheels and Tires: The BF
Goodrich Comp T/A's tires are new and the
optional Shelby 10 spokes were ordered with the
car.
Suspension: Went through
the front suspension (springs, rocker seats,
upper control arms, bushings) replaced steering
ram with new ram and replaced the power steering
hoses. The steering box was removed and sent out
to be blue printed by Kevin Gaines in the Bay
area. The rear springs and shackles were
replaced. Koni’s are installed all the way
around
Brakes: Brakes front
and rear have been completely restored along
with new rotor, pads, shoes, calipers, brake
booster and new brake lines. Much effort has
been made to maintain the original look of the
system.
Under Carriage Has
been detailed and is primered red oxide and is
solid. Total Control Sub-frame connectors have
been installed to prevent any twisting movement
of the body generated from the massive torque of
the 428 CJ motor. But these were installed so
that they can easily be removed. The sub-frames
on this Shelby are very straight.
Interior: The dash is in
excellent shape. The original aluminum inserts
on the dash were removed and refinished. The
'WIPER' and 'BRAKES' lettering on the instrument
panel is printed on the aluminum as original.
All instrument guages work, including the
factory clock. The original oil and amp meter is
found in the original pod. The car is equipped
with a factory AM 8 track stereo with a speaker
in each door. The door panels are in very good
shape. The factory aluminum panels were
chemically stripped, refinished, the edges
polished, and finally reanodized with the proper
'bright dip' anodizing process. The carpets were
replaced in 2002. The car is equipped with the
comfort weave upholstery that is in very good
condition. The roll bar and original belts are
intact and in very good shape. Shelby had signed
both the sun visor and glove box lid. In the
glove box is an owners manual with Carroll
Shelby’s signature.
Trunk: The
trunk has been restored and comes with a 1967
Shelby date coded steel wheel and original Good
Year tire. In the trunk, you will also find the
jack and tire wrench available in 1967. These
items are often missing in many of the Shelby’s
advertised for sale.
Motor: In
the fall of 2001 I pulled the motor for a
complete rebuild. At that time I discovered that
the block had been replaced early in its life.
So I searched and found a 428CJ with a 68 date
code. Doug Garifo used to work for Ford Power
Parts had this motor, and it had just returned
from the machine shop and ready for assembly. We
assembled this motor using all the tricks that
you would use when building a performance FE.
Oiling modifications, blue printed oil pump,
Cobra aluminum pan, TRW forged pistons,
Edlebrock aluminum heads that were purchased
bare casting then port matched, cleaned up and
built up properly with stainless valves. The
comp cam is #FB265DEH-10 and has a duration at
.050, Intake 211 and exhaust is 223. Hi volume
water pump. ARP bolts were used throughout. The
piston rod beams were polished and cerclips
used. Rollmaster billet steel timing gears and
dual timing chain were also used. The intake
currently on the motor is a Blue Thunder with a
Jet stage 2 Holley 750 carb. The Blue Thunder
adds about 35 horsepower compared to the
Performer RPM. The car also has FPA Tri Y
headers that have been Cerma chromed. The rest
of the exhaust is 2.5” tubes with a cross over
and Flow master 3 chamber mufflers.
Original Parts: I have all the
original motor parts, including 2 four aluminum
intake, BJ and BK carbs, and valve train
(rebuilt). I also have the original heads,
exhaust manifolds, carb linkage, and fuel log.
Legaleze: I reserve the right
to pull this auction at any time as the car is
being advertised elsewhere - so click that 'Buy
it Now' button if you don't want to miss
out.
I am selling to the lucky top
bidder, Please call if you have question, BEFORE
