1967 Shelby
GT 350 Awesome California
Survivor
1967 Shelby GT 350
4-speed Original California Black Plate Survivor. This
car is still titled in the ORIGINAL OWNER'S name and has
only been registered to him. It's been in dry California
storage since 1981 and has been carefully revived with
all new brake calipers and cylinders, tires, new gas
tank, carb rebuilt, tune up and is now road ready (have
all original cores).
When you look under this car
all you will see is original factory primer. This car is
in awesome, original, rust-free condition and is all
complete including all original California smog
equipment. This car has a very rare plastic rear bumber.
Of all the Shelbys I have seen, this is the only one I
have ever seen with this. Don't let this rare CA black
plate get away. The only way to make sure it's yours is
to buy it now!
I've owned a few Shelby's in my
time and I can tell you this one is going to see a lot
of bidder action. I only wish each of you could fly out
to see it in person and take it for a spin. There are
some small sections where the paint is chipping a little
and the clock doesn't work. Please view all the photos.
It's a very impressive car to look at, and drive, of
course. Please feel free to ask me any questions you
might have. Good luck and happy
bidding.

Shelby GT350
1967 GT 350 History
By Biff
Hitzeman Ford
redesigned the Mustang to accommodate a big block in
1967 and Carroll Shelby redesigned the Shelby. The
emphasis was more on styling and appearance than all out
performance. The '67 GT 350 came with the now well
established 289/306 horsepower small block and a new GT
500 428" Big block. 1967 would also be the last year
Shelby Mustangs would be produced at the Airplane Hangar
building of the Shelby-American plant in Los Angeles,
CA. The lease was up. Good quality fiberglass was also
hard to find and California was a long way from Detroit.
Production was moved to the A. O. Smith assembly plant
in Ionia, Michigan, for 1968.
The '67
Shelby had a longer nose piece with a unique grille that
was set off with a new Shelby coiled Cobra emblem
located on the left side of the grill. New 7-inch
driving lights were located side-by-side in the center
of the grill, but due to several states making this
illegal, they were later moved to the outboard areas of
the grille. The hood was designed with a scoop that
split the air as the center crease of the hood was
incorporated into the molded hood scoop. Louvers next to
the hood scoop let everyone know that the car had air
conditioning. The side intake scoops were designed to
funnel air to the brakes. The side scoops on the upper
quarter were used to draw air out of the cockpit of the
car. The idea for the scoops came from the GT-40. A
coiled snake emblem appeared above the side stripes on
the front rear fender. The dealer once again was
responsible for the LeMans stripes. The taillights were
taken from a 1967 Cougar. A rear spoiler was
incorporated into the rear trunk lid. The rear of the
Shelby was finished with a pop-open fuel cap with the
coiled snake on it and a coiled snake emblem was located
on the upper right corner of the spoiler.
The
interior was deluxe Mustang with a new 8000 RPM
tachometer and a 140 MPH speedometer finishing out the
dash. A roll bar was standard equipment but now featured
an inertia-reel shoulder harness seat belt. Due to poor
serviceability and the higher torque, the heavy-duty C-6
automatic replaced the C-4 in the GT 500. Once again, a
Paxton supercharger was offered on the GT 350 for added
muscle. Earlier in the production, a 427 was offered as
a GT 500 for special dealer promotions. Special wheels
were designed for the `67 with 15" all aluminum center
"star-mag" by Kelsey-Hayes. Also offered were 15"
10-spoke aluminum wheels. The 1967 is a much sought
after Shelby with its combination of style and
performance.
GT 350 Background
Carroll
Shelby gained fame as the creator or the Cobra. He
accomplished his, and Ford Motor Company's, goal of
beating the Corvettes on the racetrack and then went on
to defeat Ferrari for the World Championship for Ford in
1965. A retired Racing Driver, winner of LeMans in 1959,
Shelby was approached by Ford in 1965 to Make the
Mustang into a Race Winner. Shelby modified the 1965
Fastback Mustang to make it competitive in National
Championship road racing. The result was the GT 350.
The GT 350s
were produced at Shelby America's Los Angeles plant
until the end of the 1967 model year. Beginning in 1968,
Shelby GT production was transferred to Dearborn,
Michigan. The GT 350s and their big brother GT 500s were
some of the most potent and collectible cars in history.
Shelbys were produced through 1970.
In his
efforts to turn the Mustang into a raceworthy car,
Shelby and his engineers made numerous changes. The
front suspension was modified extensively. Faster
steering and bigger brakes were used. A significant
amount of chassis stiffening was added, and extensive
body modifications were made. The Shelbys all used a
fiberglass hood to save weight. The original three
production years, 1965,66,67, used the "k" motor, a high
performance 289CID V8 which produced 271 HP. Most
Shelbys used the top loader 4 speed transmission, and
all Shelbys used Ford's limited slip rear end.
The early cars were more performance
oriented
Shelby's fame
has led to a steep increase in value of his products.
Shelby-created vehicles are some of the most sought
after and collectible vehicles in the world today.
An interesting side note as to how the GT 350 got
its name: When the team was designing on the car, they
all agreed to use GT "something" as the name for the
car. When it came time for a decision, everyone looked
to Shelby. He walked to the door of the shop and asked
one of the attendants to pace off the distance to the
next building -- 350 feet -- the GT 350!

ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS This car has never
been hit. Has all original body panels. Has never had any rust and has none now.
Has factory primer that looks like new on the bottom. It's an original numbers
matching car. The interior is Mint and all original. Original wheel in great
original shape (no cracks). Underdash guages and Shelby belts. The car is all
complete. The hi-po 289 growls and runs strong. This car is a solid number 2
with a good paint job. It's just hours of detailing, and a nice paint job away
from being a number one car (car will need front bumber rechromed). No need for
a frame off here with clean factory primer on the bottom and a mint complete
interior...
